The Aborted Plan

We had lovely plans last Saturday.

One of T’s best friends came over for a play-date.  The plan was to go to the beach after lunch and spend time exploring the rock pools at Widemouth Bay in Bude.  The weather was supposed to be okay for this little adventure.  We should’ve known better.

Since we knew it was going to be cold, we bundled the kids in weatherproof coats, complete with wooly hats.  We even had a picnic prepared.

But the sky looked ominous and foreboding as we parked our car and as soon as I stepped out, a gush of very cold wind almost knocked me off my feet.  But I brushed it aside and quickly got the kids ready.

The girls turned whingy.  But I ushered them out, hoping a play on the beach would cheer them up.

But no sooner had we walked towards the rock-pools, I felt a few drops coming.  I was hoping it was only going to be a drizzle, but nope.  It turned into a real Cornish downpour, so we accepted defeat and ran back to the car with two whingy little girls and a bewildered dog trailing behind us.

Maybe next time …

How is your weekend going?

Ours will probably be spent indoors, since little T has chickenpox and the weather outside looks horrible, as always.

  1. The weather has been awful hasn’t it…It has seemed to rain every Saturday for months….At least you got a little bit of fresh air x

  2. what a shame it did not stay dry, you can usually manage in the cold for a while. I do not suppose the dog was too happy at having his walk cut short. Love the yellow wellies. #countrykids

    • He wasn’t happy at all. My husband had to walk him without the two whingy girls 😉

  3. What a shame about the weather! We try to get out despite the weather, but sometimes when it’s really bad you just have to admit defeat like you did. Nothing worse then wet, cold, whingy kids! #CountryKids

  4. The weather is rubbish isn’t it? I hate rain, it seems to make everything feel miserable! Can’t wait for the spring, but your pictures are lovely and I think the beach is nice whatever the weather – we mostly have mud when it rains around here!

  5. Ah we aren’t having much luck with the weather of late are we. Well done on attempting to go to the beach, we were caught out feeding the animals as a family team, thankfully it wasn’t far to dash indoors again. Let’s hope half term brings some lovely sunny days for Cornwall. Thanks for linking up at #CountryKids

    • Yes, it happens a lot to us too! 😉 One of the downsides of living by the coast, or shall I say England? 😉

    • Thanks. Yes, at least we did our best to go out that day in spite the weather 🙂

  6. Aww, such a shame! It has been a bit too wet and windy recently (I.e. All winter..). I always want to get out whatever but then the kids overrule when they start complaining about the rain or wind etc. Will be nice to get out in warm spring sunshine soon! Hope you get better weather this week. Thanks so much for linking up to #Whatevertheweather 🙂 x

    • The weather is supposed to be better this week, but also colder. Can’t wait to go out there though 😉

  7. It’s so nice to find another Cornish blogger!! Hi! We love going to the beach whatever the weather too, but sometimes going in the rain really does make you miserable. It’s good that you managed to get a little bit of fresh air though. I seriously cannot wait for Spring and then we can explore our beautiful country in the warmth again. Thank you so much for sharing with #whatevertheweather. xx

    • Hi! (Waves back). Yes, we can’t wait for spring too. We had really lovely weather last Monday but it was really cold. Today isn’t so good, hopefully tomorrow will be better. But I somehow doubt that 😉 x
