Norfolk Mini-Series: By the Seaside in Sunny Hunny

It all began in Sunny Hunny.  Apparently, it isn’t always sunny in Hunstanton but we were lucky enough to be blessed with glorious weather the few days we were there.  We used the lovely seaside town Hunstanton as base for our trip.  For those who don’t know, “Hunny” as some fondly call the place, is a lovely seaside town in West Norfolk.  It’s one of the few places in the West Coast where the sun can be seen setting over the sea.

We arrived on a Sunday afternoon.  After some tea and cake, we decided to take a walk by the pier.  Was really impressed with the lovely flowers by the promenade.

We knew there was a seaside carnival, not surprisingly T wanted to head for there as soon as she could see it from afar but first my husband tried to convince me to try out the jellied eel.

I took one look and politely declined (did have a taste though) and instead enjoyed a small pot of mixed-seafood.

Not to be left-out, T all ready for the seaside fair asked for some cotton candy.

And then she was all set for some serious fun in the fair.

Sadly, T wasn’t tall enough for some of the rides.  To cheer her up, we said yes to a temporary tattoo.

Her first choice was a sugar skull (she loves them), but then decided on the grim reaper.  Yes, my daughter is a bit “dark” that way.

The woman doing the temporary tattoos tried to convince her to add some colour and perhaps even some glitter.  But T knew what she wanted and politely said no.  I don’t blame her.  I don’t think the the grim reaper will be pleased to be dusted with glitter and colour.

And here’s my little goth girl, proudly showing off her tattoo.  The woman said it will last a week and she was right!

We enjoyed the lovely picturesque scenes on our way to the flat.

It was a beautiful end to our first day in Sunny Hunny.

Where are we off to tomorrow, mum?  T asked.

Off to the Norfolk Lavender Farm.

Wait for it!

  1. Oh I do love Norfolk. Never heard of or explored this place though. Thanks for putting it on my radar. Love your daughters tattoo choice. Breaking the norm

    • Thank you. My daughter likes skulls. I think she’ll be a goth when she’s older (she already is actually 😉

    • Oh you must visit Hunstanton if you go. The kids will love the seaside carnival. Not my sort of thing, but T loved it too 🙂

    • It’s a great base to stay while one discovers the neighbouring “tourist places”. Plus, T loved the carnival. We might have just bumped into each other without us knowing it 😉

  2. Norfolk is my favourite place in England I love it! Every time we go to Hunstanton tho it is raining 🙁 Sophie loves the sea life centre there and the arcades! Looks like you had a lovely SUNNY day out!! x

    • I know, that’s what my sister-in-law said too. We were really lucky to have good weather the whole time we were there 🙂

  3. Wow! It looks absolutely stunning!! I’ve never been to Norfolk, but would love to go just from looking at these pics!

    • I think the jellied eel is an acquired taste. Did like the mixed seafood though 🙂

I haven’t been to Norfolk in years and wow what a long journey from Cornwall! I had to google Hunstanton to work out how the sun could possibly set over the sea in Norfolk, but having spotted it on the map it all makes sense. I must say ew to the jellied eels, they really are an Eastern coast delicacy I would turn down too but the little temporary tattoo on T looks fab, Clio would love this too. I’m looking forward to the Lavener fields next.

    • We actually did the journey via MK. Stayed a bit with family because of my sister-in-law’s wedding. It wasn’t that bad from Beds 🙂

Lots of fun to be had in ‘Hunny’!! We played Crazy Golf there in a bracing March wind and found some multi-coloured cliffs. We’ll be down on Devon/Cornwall border next Sat/Sun/Mon so maybe we can meet up again if you’re free.

    • Oh we did see the Crazy Golf but T was determined to go to the fair 😉 Would love to meet up, but we have guests that weekend (staying till Tuesday). Will ask S if we can manage it 🙂 xx

  9. Surely such a fun day for all of you. I love the flower blooms, the beach and the fare. Ohh, and I will definitely look forward for the Lavender farm post. Enjoy!

Can’t beat a bit of sunny hunny! We’ve got a place down the coast in Brancaster, so know it well. My kids love the fair at Hunny!

  11. We spent lots of time in Norfolk when I was little, but I’ve not been back since. I think a glittery grim reaper might actually be more menacing. #CountryKids

    • Perhaps, it’s time for a visit then? 😉 I agree about the glitter 🙂

  12. We’ve never been to Hunstanton – your pics remind me a lot of Mablethorpe up the coast, which we really like. Will check it out next time we’re in Norfolk

  13. Those flowers on the promenade are beautiful. I’m not sure I would have gone for the jellied eel either – the mixed seafood looks much more appealing! T looks like she had a wonderful time and I love that she knew exactly what she wanted when getting the temporary tattoo 🙂 #countrykids

    • The mixed seafood actually was really good. And yes, T definitely knows what she wants 🙂
