In the spotlight: Doc

I don’t remember the last time I wrote a post about Doc, I think he has been feeling a bit left out lately.  He keeps giving me a heavy sigh when he sees me typing away, as if to say “You’re always writing about HER that cat who is always hissing at me!  So my dearest, bundle of smelly fur, I’ve decide to write you a letter!

Dear Doc,

I’m still very cross with you for disappearing the other day, although yes, I know, you were just having fun in the fields and that you weren’t in any way in danger, and yes, I also know you always come home.  That’s not it, Doc.  You came home smelling lethal!  And while you’ve done this dozens of times, rolled over goodness-knows-what, it’s never stuck to you like this.  And I had no sympathy for you at all, when I gave you a bucket shower out in the lawn, because I couldn’t find where the hose was dumped during our move last month and you sat there whimpering and shivering like a drowned rat.  Nope, no sympathy at all, especially since no amount of scrubbing could get whatever it was caked on your ear off and you still stink. I think you’ve certainly out done yourself this time.

    • Doc used to do that too back in our old home. Thankfully he seems to have outgrown it now (knocks on wood).

    • Will buy apple cider vinegar next time we go shopping. Thanks for the tip! x

  1. Hello Doc! He is lovely! I have a little yorkie called Hannah! She hates being in the bath but more annoying after I spend time brushing her coat she shakes and rolls, scruffing herself up!

    • I hope so too. Might give him another bucket shower once the sun is out 🙂

    • Me too. Lately though, I’ve been blogging about our cat, so I thought a post on Doc was due 😉

    • Kids from my daughter’s school have commented that he has a Disney face 😉 He does give us that look a lot. Sigh… Doc isn’t a messy eater, but it gets really messy when he drinks water!

    • Thanks. My daughter got her first pair of Doc Martens boots when he first got Doc. When asked what name shall we give her puppy, she immediately said “Doc”

    • Oh dear, I don’t think “learn” is in Doc’s vocabulary 😉

    • Our cat used to do that too and then we moved. She’s a changed cat now and prefers staying inside than outside 🙂

  2. Our neighbour once knocked on our door holding a black dog… I asked if I could help and she said “is this your dog!?”. I promptly replied no knowing full well our golden retrievor was in the kitchen and was the opposite colour to this dog… Then I looked closer recognising the eyes and realised it was indeed our not so golden retrievor… she was PITCH BLACK COVERED WITH MUD.
As it turns out she had escaped and had dug up the neighbours brand new pond …

    • Oh no! Oh my goodness, I bet your bath was covered in mud! I hope you are still friends with your neighbours 😉

    • Oh they definitely do, even when you’re gritting your teeth 😉

  3. hahahaha this made me giggle. Oh Doc. It is funny the mischievious things they get up to. But as soon as they look at you with their big eyes and cock their head to one side, you can’t help but love them. x

  4. Hi Dean, we used to have a Bichon Frise that would disappear and come back stinking to high heaven of dead fish (we lived beside a tidal river at the time). Sometimes she would come back smelling so bad it would make us gag. I even resorted to rubbing her down with ketchup as I’d been told that could help remove the lingering pong of dead fish.

The worst our dogs roll in these days is sheep poop, which isn’t so bad in comparison.

I hope that Doc doesn’t make a habit of it,but I bet he does!

    • Doc did that once. We think he rolled over a dead seagull. He was rank! Smelled of a combination of fish and some other dead animal. Thankfully that hasn’t happened lately. Thanks for the ketchup tip 🙂 Someone also mentioned a combination of cider vinegar and something else. Will have to also look that one up 🙂

  5. I have lost count of how many times I have had to change an appointment for the vet when the cat due to go has completely disappeared. Moo was almost a no show when she needed to go last week but luckily the rattle of the biscuit box got her back …. this time! As for Saari I could list: rolling in vile stuff, chasing coypu, bring dead smelly coypu home, bottom burps (especially when we have company) and sneezing in your face …. but I love all my animals despite their foibles. #AnimalTales
