Autumn in Summer

“Have we fast-forwarded to Autumn?” I asked my husband one morning, upon looking out the window and it was grey, wet and cold.  I actually put on one of my thick cardigans which I’ve kept away thinking I won’t be needing it this summer.  Yes, it definitely feels like Autumn is back this week.   Grey and wet have been the recurring theme the past few days.

That’s what happens when you’ve had too much sun and good weather, it slaps you back on the face, as if to say, “You can’t have too much of the good stuff.  It’s bad for you”.

Thankfully the weather seems to be improving again.  Ever since I’ve moved here, it’s been part of my routine to check the daily forecast, although yes, I know you can never really rely on it, especially down here in Cornwall, where the weather is known to be volatile. Hopefully, the promise of good days will deliver.

I actually blame the bad weather for catching a cold and temperature.  I felt it coming.  My bones were beginning to ache.  Managed to take T to her swimming lessons yesterday.  But when we came back, I was shivering and by bed-time I had a full-blown temperature, which actually knocked me down.  After helping T get ready for school, I went back to bed and didn’t get up till way past 1pm.  By then, I felt better.  Even managed a bath and I’m glad by the time T came home from school, I felt actually better.

Word of the Week: Rain

In other news, our trusty old Nissan X-trail’s days are numbered and we are badly in need of a new car.  Talk about bad timing and all that.  I guess new furniture for the conservatory will have to wait.  Ho-hum.

What about you?

Did you have a good week?

Do share.

    • Wellies and coats is a must! Hopefully, the weather will improve. x

  1. The weather has been miserable hasn’t it. Our garden looked like a pool yesterday. We had a local rail station look more like a canal. But on the other hand, I’m not going out much lately and that doesn’t seem like such a bad thing when the weather is so awful!

    • On no, it must be scary to watch a canal rising. Hopefully the weather will improve soon.

    • Oh dear… maybe that heat-wave might just happen … Let’s wait and see 😉

  2. The weather here is okay. I actually welcome the rain as my plants are dying. I am a bad potted plants owner neglecting them. Glad your feeling better. its been raining here too and right about now the sky is just gray. I wish it would just pour now and then would be dry tomorrow. I just want a brighter tomorrow.

Thanks for your comment on the blog.

    • I think better days are coming! And yes, feel free to email me any time if you need a soundboard. x

  3. It’s been awful, hasn’t it? Like you, I’ve checked the forecast and it does seem to be picking up next week – it needs to! Hope you get your car sorted, typical bad timing x Thanks for sharing with #WotW

    • You’re right, the forecast does say it will improve next week 🙂

  4. I am fed up of the rain !! I have 3 pair of soaking wet trainers!! Ha.. Any more rain and I will have to tell my dog she can’t have walkies 🙂

  5. The weather has been totally bonkers. Wednesday was the middle of the year, yet we came home from school with wellies, coats and in amongst a thunderstorm and flash floods.
I’m wet but I can’t imagine how much wetter you must be talking your dog out for walkies on a regular basis!
Rain – it’s summer; please stop!

    • Same here! Then again, I keep reminding myself, the weather has always been a bit volatile, especially down here 🙂

    • I know exactly how you feel. However, as I’m typing this around 4pm, the sun is actually out …. for now.

    • I was happy the weather was warm enough for sandals. I stuck to wearing them even though it was raining! Sigh.

I think we’ve also had our summer here in Ireland. May is always sunny but then the rest is an abundance of cloudy, dull and rainy days.

    • I know what you mean. The sun suddenly came out late this afternoon, but then it’s gone again.
